Toku

The Emperor of Asian Fusion
New York
In 2007, Gillis and George Poll opened Toku: a magnificent Modern Asian restaurant. Having conquered steakhouse, seafood, and Italian cuisine, the Poll brothers decided to try something new with Asian fare. Toku’s design is based on a 19th-century Japanese home brought into the 21st century with ultramodern elements. The equally outstanding cuisine is predominantly Japanese with Chinese elements and touches of Thai, combining ingredients and cooking techniques from around the world to create the Modern Asian menu the Poll brothers had a personal hand in crafting.

Chef
Michael Tong’s Shun Lee Palace was one of the most influential Chinese restaurants of the seventies. The dining room had comfortable booths and tables topped with white linens, fine China, and forks alongside the chopsticks.

Atmosphere
Shun Lee West opened in 1981 giving residents on the West side of Manhattan easier access to the same fine Chinese dining. Shun Lee Cafe (open on weekends and weeknights) for those looking for a quick bite before a performance at Lincoln Center.
